This poster represents the Highland Games held at Dunoon advertised as the Cowal Gathering.  In 2008 this event attracted more than 3500 competitors, many being exiled Scots or Scots descent from all over the world.  Highland Games are held throughout the Highlands over the summer months and always a great day for music and dancing.  The railway companies always supported such events in their marketing such as this great example from 1935.   Tossing the caber, tug-of-rope competitions, Highland dancing and pipe playing – all accompanied with the most delicious of food and drink.

Highland Games – LMS/LNER, by Christopher Clark 1935.

This poster was originally commissioned for London Midland and Scottish Railway and London North Eastern Railway.
